I will be creating a bespoke burlwood necklace. I have narrowed down the materials and forms that I will employ in the piece.
I will emphasize the burlwood intricate pore-like details as one of the main features of the necklace itself.
Burlwood as a materials is rare, and over many years a trees grain may grow inward. Creating knots that protect itself from strain and illness to aid in survival. A burlwood veneers is cutting theses knots open into thin layers. One can see the tree grains and it's multitude of scaring it -the tree endured to preserver.
I will paint an undercoat of gold leaf that will be seen through the pore-like details of the burlwood.
As well I will utilize merino wool felt fabric in the necklace to insure comfort to the wearer.
Or any soft fabric if needed.
A live edge burlwood piece will act as a gemstone which will be asymmetrically framed with durable pine wood, sections will be then gilded in gold leaf or covered with a burlwood veneer.
The cain of the necklace will have magnetic joinery, embedded into half circle pine wood forms to help support the structure of the necklace when being worn. The piece will be completed with a hook fastener to secure the piece to be worn.
